SUMMARY:

This study aims to investigate professional engagement in the context of intermittent work in Brazil, a modality introduced by the 2017 Labor Reform. This modality is characterized by non-continuous service provision with alternating periods of activity and inactivity. The main objective of this study is to determine whether professionals engaged in intermittent work are engaged. To this end, the factors that influence this engagement will be assessed, focusing on job demands and resources. The research will adopt a quantitative and descriptive, correlational approach, in which the relationship between engagement variables and the demands and resources of intermittent work will be verified. The case study will be conducted in the city of Juazeiro do Norte, Ceará, where the economy excels in the services, commerce, and industry sectors. The research population will consist of workers with active intermittent contracts in the city. Data collection will use the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES). The relevance of the study lies in the need to understand the impacts of intermittent work on Brazilian workers, especially in a context of legal and social uncertainty. Ultimately, the research seeks to clarify whether intermittent work, in addition to being perceived as a precarious form of work, harms the development of employees' bonds and professional identity with organizations.
