FACTORS INFLUENCING THE ADOPTION OF ONLINE BETTING PLATFORMS: AN APPROACH WITH EXTENDED UTAUT
Online gambling; UTAUT; Consumer behavior; Technology adoption
This study aims to investigate the factors influencing the adoption of online gambling platforms in Brazil, a rapidly expanding phenomenon that raises economic, social, and behavioral concerns. It seeks to analyze how individual variables such as risk perception, perceived return, financial literacy, and self-control, incorporated into the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT), explain the intention to use these technologies for betting. The research will be quantitative in nature, employing a survey applied to users of online gambling platforms, with data analyzed through Covariance-Based Structural Equation Modeling (CB-SEM). The expected results are to advance theoretical contributions by adapting and testing UTAUT in an underexplored context, and to provide practical insights for managers, regulators, and policymakers. Thus, the study seeks to broaden the understanding of technology adoption in environments that combine risk and digital leisure, strengthening the dialogue between management, consumer behavior, and interdisciplinary fields.
