SUMMARY:

This research project aims to develop a reflection on how the teaching of philosophy can serve as a reflective tool on the phenomenon of the performance society. The notion of the performance society refers to Byung-Chul Han. To achieve this, the project draws from the researcher’s professional experiences, which highlight the belief that teaching philosophy should not simply be a reproduction of philosophical concepts but an act of creation. However, the project acknowledges that the creation of philosophical concepts is not the same as mere opinion. On one hand, the project seeks to distinguish the teaching of philosophy from personal opinion; on the other hand, it also recognizes a proximity between the performance society and the standards established by the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC). The BNCC proposes an emphasis on developing competencies and skills in high school education, positioning theoretical or disciplinary education as a complement to the execution of practical tasks. Philosophy teaching seems diluted amidst so many demands, with only 1 hour per class. Students are overwhelmed by a tedious workload of tasks, which are exacerbated by the belief that they are the protagonists of their own educational process. However, this feeling of protagonism obscures their condition of exhaustion. Thus, the following problems are raised: how can philosophy, even under the BNCC guidelines, play a significant role for the exhausted student? To what extent can the concepts of the performance society be associated with the BNCC model? And, finally, to what extent can the teaching of philosophy be an alternative for dealing with the performance society? This project aims to pause the time of reproductive tasks and allow for the construction of concepts through contemplative and creative lessons. This means an educational proposal that works with philosophical concepts through cultural/artistic collections and invites students to express their ideas according to their own level.
